THE FOOL’S HOLIDAY

I played only two April Fool’s jokes today, my Bible study ladies and the mortgage man on the phone–whom I’d never met.

your face is purple!

your face is purple!

My mother got me–only because I wasn’t fully awake yet.  She said I had something dreadful on the back of my slacks.  David got three guys at work, telling them OSHA was coming to inspect the plant today.  He can fool us with his innocent poker face.  Mother can get away with it because she’s 93.  I think everyone lets me slide because they know how much fun I have and they don’t have the heart to ruin it for me.  Thanks, all my old friends.  And my new friend, Richard, at the mortgage company.

They call this the Atheist’s holiday.  “The fool has said in his heart there is no God.”  (Psalm 14:1)

Some joker may try to trick you into believing God is dead.  That claim is highly exaggerated.  It’s a very poor April Fool’s trick.  So, don’t pay any attention to them.  Remember, Easter is right around the corner.  And that’s Resurrection Day.

If you’re into giving April Fool’s gifts, try Ebenezer and Ninety-Eight Friends, Musings on Life, Scripture and the Hymns.  There are no tricks in it.  Just a potpourri about fine folks, good food, even a few stray animals.  It all points back to our God who is alive and well.

May all your jokes be fun and harmless ones.

FRIENDS

Denise and I had a great evening over calamari and nonstop chatter.

Her recent trip to Oregon, our coming up trip to Antelope Valley Writers’ Conference

Her book, my book.

Her husband the collector, my husband who sprayed tonic water all over the kitchen–and we wondered why we stuck to the floor.

Her children and grandchildren, my children and grandchildren.

Her God and my God.  The same Person.

The Writer

The Writer

She finds something good almost everywhere she goes.  Then she writes about it.

While you’re waiting for Denise’s book to come out, check out mine, Ebenezer and Ninety-Eight Friends, Musings on Life, Scripture and the Hymns.  Barnes and Noble will be glad to order it for you. Amazon or I will send it right to your door. Probably B&N will too.

Before you finish Ebenezer, you Fresnans, pick up a copy of Salt Fresno and read Denise’s article, “Easter’s At My House.”  Next issue, Denise will interview our new mayor, Ashley Swearingen.

Blessings.
