Last evening David and I headed out to find the perfect door knob. No, not fancy. Just the right one to fit the hall door, as we’d taken the hall one off to put on the bedroom after the last escapade. (See former blog entry) We went to House Junction (David doesn’t like me to use the real names–to protect the guilty).
“Can you direct us to the door knobs.”
“Sure, aisle 8.”
“Thank you.
“Sure, any time.”
No door knob with a round thing inside. They all had rectangle ones. Don’t ask me to explain more than that.
From there we went to Plantation, your small town franchise.
We finally found someone to wait on us. Big store for small town.
“Can you direct us to the door knobs.”
“Sure, aisle 4.
Thank you.
“Sure, any time.”
No door knob with a round thing inside. They all had rectangle ones.
Next store was High’s, the one I had thought was rather upscale, too uppity for me.
“Can you direct us to the door knobs.”
“Sure, aisle 12.”
“Thank you.
“Sure, any time.”
No door knob with a round thing inside. They all had rectangle ones.
“Maybe we can order one off the internet.”
“May I help you two?” She was a scrubbed, girl-next-door, at our beck and call.
“We’re looking for a door knob, but they all have these rectangle things. We need a round one.”
“I can fix that for you.”
“You can!?”
“Sure, hold on one moment while I help this couple.”
We picked out the closest color, waited maybe four minutes.
“Come on, follow me.”
I thought this would give me time to scan through the home improvement and cooking magazines. No joke, I don’t think it was three minutes.
“There you go. Anything else I can help you with?”
Hey, I’m not through reading this article about gourmet cooking for the non-cook.
House Junction is just down the road from us. Plantation, I thought, took care of the little guy.
This young girl, whose name I didn’t write down or remember, made life a little easier for us. I think I’ll go back and look her up and thank her.
Maybe we can learn from the nameless girl next door at High’s. Some of us feel like a square peg in a round hole. We just need someone to show us how to change that.
